Chasin Kitties

Fishing Time: 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Weather: Hot, low 90's
Water Temp: 65-68 degrees
Who Went: Scotty, JJ, Me

With the success we had last week at Utah lake we went back for round two this weekend. This time Scotty wanted in on some of the action! We went prepared for an all day catfish bonanza. First we stopped off at the sewer treatment plant outlet to see if the White Bass were still there. JJ managed to pull one in, but that was it. We moved on, in search of some monster channel cats! I have never really fished the north end of Utah Lake for catfish, only the south end around Lincoln Beach and Bird Island. We moved many times with no success, until we ended up right back at the same place we began, the sewer plant outlet. Here we found many kitties that wanted to bite! Problem was that they were all Mud Cats. Not exactly what we were looking for, but still made for a good time. Scotty was just happy to start catching fish! We all started pulling in cats but it was JJ that had the hot hand today. He had non stop action for about 3 hours throwing right along the mud line, including this double up with Scotty.
Once the action died off we moved to the east side of the dike going into AF Boat Harbor. The water was real murky here and we weren't getting any bites. Then JJ's bobber all of the sudden went missing, we were shocked when he pulled in this dinky little Largemouth Bass. He was using a chunk of the White Bass he caught earlier for bait. It caught us all by surprise since I have never caught a Largemouth out of Utah Lake other than in the tributaries. Once the excitement wore off from finally seeing a Largemouth caught out of Utah Lake we started realizing how hot it was! We packed up and got out of there. It was the busiest I have ever seen the AF Boat Harbor! I guess that's what happens on the first Saturday of the year in the 90's!
