Journey for the Smallest Catfish

Fishing Time: 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Weather: Cloudy, Windy, T-70s

Moon Phase:  69% Moon

Location:  Cutler Reservoir

Best Bait: Worm and Bobber

Who Went: Devin, Addison, Dayton, Cari, Dunc

For months Devin has been waiting to catch a small catfish to keep in a tank in his room.  I told him that I usually catch some small ones at Lake Powell each spring, but with COVID-19 this year, Lake Powell was closed and we couldn’t go.  He has waited all winter to catch one and the other night on YouTube I saw a smallest catfish contest in Utah, and a guy was catching tiny bullhead catfish.  I looked at the date the video was posted, and it was only a couple days prior.  I pinpointed his location and we made a game plan.

The location was Cutler Reservoir, which is 2 hours away from our house, but I met Cari and the kids after work in Bountiful and we headed north, on a journey for the smallest catfish we could find.  We arrived too high winds, a storm brewing, and a giant garter snake…

We rigged up the rods and within no time the kids were catching tiny bullheads.  Of course, Addi and Dayton had to take one home too, so they are now living in our backyard pond.  Devin was beyond ecstatic and finally has his little catfish in a tank in his room.
